Sudoku rules and which puzzle to pick
Sudoku is a number placement puzzle. In a standard 9 × 9 Sudoku you fill the grid so that every row, every column and every 3 × 3 box contains the digits 1 to 9 exactly once. Some digits are given at the start, and each puzzle has exactly one solution that you find by logic, not arithmetic.
Young children can start with 4 × 4 Sudoku for kids, which uses only the numbers 1 to 4, then move up to 6 × 6 Sudoku. Adults and older children new to the puzzle can begin with Easy Sudoku, then Medium and Hard Sudoku. The Daily Sudoku is the same puzzle for everyone each day.
If you enjoy Sudoku and want some arithmetic too, try Calcudoku, which adds sum and product clues, or Kakuro, a crossword made of sums.
