How do you multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number?
Split the two-digit number into tens and ones, multiply each part, then add. For 23 × 4: 20 × 4 = 80 and 3 × 4 = 12, so 23 × 4 = 92. This is called partitioning.
It relies on times tables and multiplying by 10. If those are slow, practise mixed times tables or multiply by 10, 100 and 1000 first.
